The Housemaid by Freida McFadden Review
As somebody who thoroughly enjoys being lost in a book, whenever a book is highly spoken of online – I feel like it just NEED to find out more! The housemaid by Freida McFadden has been talked about and highly spoken about all over booktok, so you know I had to give it a try!
What is the book The Housemaid about?
When Millie Calloway is invited for an interview as a Housemaid for the rich, privelleged Wincester family she doesn’t believe she stands a chance. Their plush lavish lifestyle looks a farcry from Millies life who is down on her luck and currently living out of her car… But all of that is about to change when she’s offered the job. Millie soon finds out that there is more to the Winchester family than meets the eye… Nina Winchester is demanding and antagnostic and her husband Andrew seems beaten down. Something is off… And Millie is about to get a lot more than she bargained for!
The Housemaid by Freida McFadden Review
I found the Housemaid by Freida McFadden to be captivating. It was a real page turner that I devoured in two days! The descriptions of the characters and their surroundings were vivid, s0 I felt like I could visualise the scenes really well.
The characterisation of Millie and Nina were amazing! Millie’s character was relatable and charming which made me route for her. Similarly, Nina’s Character was contemptuous, which made her easily dislikeable. All of the characters we meet have their own distinct flaws and personalities which I really love in a book – Nobody should be squeky clean in my opinion!
The narrative as a whole was well paced and kept suspense building – which really makes for it to be unputdownable!
I can’t lie, I kind of predicted part of the story (which I won’t give any more detail on to keep this review free of spoilers!) towards the end. I think this might be because I read a lot of thrillers though! I don’t think the part I predicted effected my overall enjoyment of the book.
Is The Housemaid worth reading?
In my opinion? Absolutley! If you’re a fan of thrillers with twists and turns that’ll keep you on your toes – this is definitely the book for you! I enjoyed books such as The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins and Rock, Paper, Scissors by Alice Feeney – which have a similar sort of vibe to The Housemaid.
It’s one of the few books this year that I’d rate FIVE STARS, and I really don’t give out five stars lightly!
How many books are in the Housemaid series?
There are currently two books in the series! The sequel to The Housemaid is The Housemaid’s Secret, another book that is well worth a read or listen. That being said, either book could be read/listened to as a standalone!
